InFEWS Stipend

A small number of stipends ($34k, plus tuition and fees) are available for select students, who are eligible under NSF rules (US citizen or permanent resident). The application for funding can be found in the application form for the InFEWS fellowship.

Current fellows who did not previously receive the stipend may submit an updated statement, in pdf, by the application deadline (Feb 10, 2020, 5pm) to infews@berkeley.edu and CC: pyael [at] berkeley.edu and agogino [at] berkeley.edu, with the subject line “Current InFEWS Fellow – Fellowship Application.” The updated statement should summarize your research interests and how you intend to focus your research at the nexus of food, water, and energy. It should additionally describe progress you have made in the prior year on these goals. Progress made may include any educational or employment background in issues related to development economics or development engineering. (500 word limit)

Student Expectations

To apply for internship travel grant as InFEWS fellow, please complete the InFEWS Travel Application and email it to InFEWS@Berkeley.edu . Whether you get the travel grant or not, make sure you get travel insuranceAs part of the InFEWS Internship experience you are required to:

  1. Complete a pre-internship reflection document.
  2. Communicate with your faculty sponsor and receive their approval prior to beginning the internship.
  3. Collect (in an ethical manner) photos/screenshots/video/audio representing the types of work and insights that you have during your internship (these must not be part of your research. If you are collecting such information as part of your research, you must have IRB approval before collecting it – please consult https://cphs.berkeley.edu/review.html for further information).
  4. Complete a post-internship reflection document.
  5. Present insights in seminar or symposium to InFEWS fellows and faculty in the fall semester or annual meeting.
  6. All travel must comply with UC Berkeley travel guidelines. Including, but not limited to, lodging or meals & incidental expenses (M&IE) per diems. All travel must comply with the Fly America Act. If you expect other classes of expenses that are not listed above, but may be critical for your internship, please contact InFEWS@berkeley.edu prior to submitting your application.
